Awka, Anambra State – Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, led Anambra’s 2025 Children’s Day celebrations on May 27 at the newly inaugurated Solution Fun City in Awka, offering a vibrant and hopeful message to children across the state.
The event began with a ceremonial inspection of a guard of honour mounted by children, followed by the delivery of President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide Children’s Day address. Governor Soludo echoed the President’s message, emphasizing that the future of Anambra and Nigeria depends on the well-being and development of its children.
“Every day we wake up, we are thinking about you and acting in your best interest to protect you and to give you a future,” Soludo told the gathering. “Children remain the bridge to the future, and that is why every child in government-owned schools in Anambra receives free primary and secondary education.”
The governor also unveiled Solution Fun City as a symbol of the administration’s focus on combining education with recreation. He announced plans for more such facilities across the state, stating, “Anambra must move from being a departure lounge to a destination of choice. The preferred place to enjoy must be Anambra.”
The event featured a march past, cultural displays, and community interactions aimed at reinforcing the importance of protecting and nurturing children.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, praised the Soludo administration for its education reforms and support for child welfare. She noted that initiatives such as free and compulsory education and the recruitment of qualified teachers are reshaping the state’s educational landscape.
Also addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Victory Ekwunife, Speaker of the Anambra State Children’s Parliament, highlighted the need for a juvenile correctional facility to prevent minors in conflict with the law from being placed with adult offenders. “This step is essential to ensure their rehabilitation and protection,” she said.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim; his wife, Lady Oluchi Ibezim; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu; Chief of Staff Ernest Ezeajughi; Head of Service Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe; and members of the state executive and legislature.
The 2025 Children’s Day celebration reaffirmed Anambra’s commitment to building a safe, engaging, and empowering environment for its children.
