A cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of four people, while 36 others are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. The Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area, Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, confirmed the development during a visit to the victims at the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) in Yola on Sunday.
The outbreak, which has affected Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards, was initially reported with 20 cases but has since risen to over 40, Ibrahim stated.
“Sadly, four people have died, but many have been stabilised and are receiving care from health workers,” Ibrahim said.
He expressed gratitude for the swift intervention of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners, noting that the outbreak may have been caused by contaminated water due to recent flooding in the area. Authorities are continuing efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
