*CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICERS WIVES ASSOCIATION ( CDOWA) ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER JOINS WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD IN CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025*
The Anambra State Command Chapter of Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CDOWA) participated in the event to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
This year’s International Women’s Day Celebration was marked in Anambra State with great enthusiasm, focusing on the theme “Accelerating Action for Gender Equality”. The event saw full attendance from various units, including CDOWA, Gender Unit, Female Special Force, and Anti-Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration Unit personnel.
The event kicked off with a road walk for life on Friday, 7th March 2025 from Ekwueme Square and was terminated at Eke Awka Roundabout Awka.The grand finale was held on Saturday, 8th March 2025 at Women Development Centre Awka.It started with a prayer Summit and climaxed into a robust session with the women.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo in her speech welcomed all the women groups and urged them to join the good fight of Mr Governor in purging the State of unwholesome traditional practices with emphasis on discouraging the “get rich quick syndrome” prevalent amongst the youths.
She further encouraged the women that all good actions in favour of women are being accelerated despite the increasing gender based violence faced by women.
“In line with the global celebrations, the Anambra State Government reiterated its commitment to fostering a society where every woman and girl can thrive, contribute, and achieve their full potential. Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of sustaining a women-friendly society, where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a lived reality” she stated.
The CDOWA Chairperson, Mrs Blessing Maku represented by the CDOWA Secretary, Mrs Nneka Azuka said the celebration also highlights the need for bold and collective action towards achieving gender equality stressing the importance of dismantling systemic barriers, challenging biases, and ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in education, leadership, healthcare, and governance.
ACC Nwufor Ebere, OC Anti-Human Trafficking who represented the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde while extending warm felicitations to women on International Women’s Day emphasized that investing in women yields significant returns, as empowering them is essentially investing in the future of our communities, economies, and societies.
The International Women’s Day holds immense significance as a day to celebrate women from all perspectives and engage in discussions about the barriers and challenges they encounter in their journey.
The FSF team led by SC Ngozi Okoye were on ground to provide adequate security during the event.
