The Chief Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has adjourned proceedings regarding the DNA application filed to establish the paternity of the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. This adjournment follows the breakdown of settlement talks between the Aloba family and the respondent, Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi.
A statement by Monisola Odumosu, representing the family’s legal team, was obtained by PUNCH Online on Friday. It explained that the court, during its session on July 9, 2024, directed both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution. However, these closed-door negotiations failed to reach an agreement.
Odumosu attributed the unsuccessful negotiations to “external factors.” The statement elaborated, “Emmanuel Oroko of Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, informed the court that despite earnest efforts, the settlement talks broke down due to external factors. M.K.O Orire Esq., representing the respondent, confirmed the breakdown in negotiations during the resumed hearing.”
In response to petitions from both legal teams, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, adjourned the suit to allow for the hearing of all pending applications related to the DNA test. The court also encouraged the parties to continue exploring settlement options before the next hearing date.
Previously, the Aloba family’s legal team had requested a DNA test due to public speculation about the child’s paternity. The family remains firm in its demand for the test, citing the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
The statement also clarified that no official spokesperson has been designated by the family and disowned any statements made without the legal team’s clearance.
Mohbad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, with the circumstances of his death sparking widespread controversy on social media.
