Covenant University has emerged as the overall winner of the 2024 Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) Business Leaders Challenge, solidifying its reputation for excellence in business and finance education.
The grand finale, held at the Bankers House in Lagos, saw five Nigerian universities compete. Covenant University’s Team Analyst claimed the top spot, beating Team Lot from Nile University and Team Visionary Titan from Landmark University, who finished second and third, respectively. Teams from TopFaith University and the University of Lagos also received consolation prizes.
As champions, Team Analyst was awarded ₦1 million, access to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme valued at £2,000 per participant, and an internship with a leading corporate organisation. The runners-up, Team Lot and Team Visionary Titan, received ₦700,000 and ₦500,000, respectively, alongside two-month internship opportunities.
The competition challenged participants to solve real-life business problems and present their solutions to a distinguished panel of judges, including finance and accounting experts Dr. Seyi Olanrewaju, Mr. Stanley Ubani, Mrs. Gbemi Adelowore, and Mrs. Folake Ogundipe.
Ijeoma Anadozie, Country Director at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, described the competition as a platform to nurture future finance leaders.
“The CGMA Business Leaders Challenge celebrates the resilience, brilliance, and potential of future finance leaders. I encourage all participants to continue pushing boundaries and exploring global opportunities in management accounting,” Anadozie said.
This year’s event saw significant growth, with 57 universities participating, a remarkable increase from last year’s 30 entrants.
