The Vice Principal (Administration) of Community Secondary School, Oko, Orumba North LGA, Mrs. Joy Okafor, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for extending his Free Education program to Senior Secondary Schools.
Speaking during an interactive session with information officers, Mrs. Okafor praised the governor’s efforts, noting that the initiative is a relief for parents struggling in the harsh economic climate. She highlighted the positive impact of the program, stating that children who were once hawking or loitering the streets have returned to school, and there has been a significant increase in student enrollment.
“Before the Free Education policy, we had only three classes in JSS3 and SS1. Now, we are heading to five classes due to the influx of students,” she explained.
Mrs. Okafor also acknowledged the government’s investment in equipping schools and recruiting qualified teachers, which has raised the standard of education. However, she appealed for assistance with perimeter fencing to enhance security at the school, as vandalism remains a challenge.
The school’s Senior Prefect, Akpan Chidiebere Israel, also expressed gratitude, describing the Free Education policy as a lifeline for intelligent students who previously could not afford school fees.
