Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese plant, has demonstrated its commitment to community development by awarding N16.2 million in scholarships to 120 indigent students. This initiative, along with other social investment projects, was unveiled during the company’s 2024 Community Day celebration.
The company’s plant manager, Mr. Roy Uttam, highlighted the importance of community partnerships and outlined the various projects undertaken in the past year. These projects include the renovation of health centers, installation of solar-powered boreholes, electrification initiatives, and empowerment programs for youth and women.
In addition to the scholarships, Dangote Cement distributed 55 chest freezers to vulnerable women to support their businesses. The company also provided welfare support to 50 elderly individuals, agricultural inputs to 60 farmers, and skill training and startup kits to 30 youths.
Despite facing challenges due to economic conditions, Dangote Cement remains dedicated to completing the remaining projects in the coming year. The company’s commitment to social responsibility has been recognized by the Ogun State government, with the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Adebola Sofela, praising the company’s efforts in uplifting the lives of its host communities.
The traditional rulers of the host communities also expressed their gratitude to Dangote Cement for its positive impact on their communities. They urged both the company and community members to continue fostering a strong partnership for mutual benefit.
