Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has consistently received repeat orders for its products since production began. The refinery has successfully exported to European countries, Singapore, and offshore Lome.
During a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals and the Dangote Fertiliser Limited complex by members of the House of Representatives, Dangote criticized the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for allegedly disparaging local industries and promoting the importation of substandard fuel.
Dangote urged an impartial assessment of fuel quality, challenging NMDPRA to compare samples from local filling stations with those from his refinery. He claimed his refinery produces the best diesel in Nigeria, with sulphur content significantly lower than the permitted levels.
“The de-marketing of a company by its regulator is unfortunate. Our tests show our diesel has a sulphur content of 88 ppm, much lower than imported diesel, which often exceeds the 50 ppm cap,” Dangote stated. He emphasized the transparency of his refinery’s processes and invited the regulator to conduct their own tests.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Gas and Oil at Dangote Industries Limited, highlighted that European countries have banned high-sulphur diesel exports to West Africa due to health concerns. He noted that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery meets Euro V specifications and various international standards.
During the visit, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the quality of imported refined products. He praised the Dangote Oil Refinery as a significant asset for Nigeria’s energy security and sustainability.
Abass commended the refinery’s state-of-the-art technology and its role in positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global energy market. “This facility stands as a beacon of hope for our country as we navigate through energy supply challenges,” he said.
He acknowledged the challenges faced during the refinery’s construction and lauded Dangote’s commitment to excellence despite regulatory and economic obstacles. “Your unwavering commitment to excellence shines through,” Abass concluded.
