Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan used his 2012 hit track, *Dami Duro*, as a ringtone during his time in office.
Davido made the claim during an interview on Power 105.1 FM in the United States, where he also spoke about his father’s initial opposition to his music career and how the song’s widespread success changed everything.
According to him, the turning point came when *Dami Duro* gained massive national recognition, including allegedly becoming the then president’s ringtone. “My dad accepted my decision to do music after he heard my second single, *Dami Duro*. The song blew up,” Davido stated.
He further recounted how his father, Deji Adeleke, used to employ security operatives to shut down his shows and arrest promoters to stop him from performing. But everything changed when the song became a national anthem of sorts.
“At that point, people started advising my dad to allow me do music,” he added.
Davido also noted that he eventually agreed to return to school to finish his education after reconciling with his father. “Now, we are best friends. He comes to all my shows and is very involved in my business,” the singer said.
