Award-winning artiste, David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has suggested that he may leave his first child, Imade, in the custody of her mother, Sophia Momodu. This development follows a counter-affidavit filed by Momodu, asserting that Davido is unfit to raise their daughter.
Momodu’s affidavit, which has been circulating on social media, alleges that Davido’s home environment is unsafe for a young girl. She referenced the tragic death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, in 2022 as part of her evidence. The document reads in part: “The applicant cannot take proper care of our daughter because he lives a controversial lifestyle (negative media attention) that will expose our daughter to more negative trauma at her tender age.”
Momodu further claimed that Davido’s frequent travels and the presence of various unsavory male adults in his home would negatively influence their daughter. She also expressed concerns about the lack of child therapy and the stability of Davido’s presence in Imade’s life. Additionally, she highlighted the potential complications of Davido’s marriage to another woman.
In response, Davido posted on X.com, expressing his ongoing grief over his son’s death and his frustration with the situation. He wrote, “Your constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point you can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives.”
Davido also indicated his willingness to let go of seeking custody of Imade for now, stating, “Imade will grow up to see I fought for her. As for now, you can have her. P.S: she won’t be a child forever .. enjoy, Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!”
He further emphasized his request for joint custody and criticized the reaction to his case, adding, “All I asked for was ‘joint custody’ but cus it’s Davido yall wanna act like yall can’t read! SMH I’m off this … yall be blessed and I pray this never happens to you.”
Previously, Davido had taken legal action seeking custody of Imade, claiming he has been responsible for her education, housing, transportation, living expenses, healthcare, and periodic travel. In response, Momodu asserted that Davido had not contacted or supported their child emotionally or financially since their relationship ended in July 2022. She insisted that she had never denied him the opportunity to see Imade.
