D’banj Explains Inspiration Behind Sampling Hits in New Album ‘The Entertainer D’ Sequel’

Popular Nigerian singer D’banj, known for his dynamic stage performances, has shared the motivation behind sampling some of his classic hits in his latest album, *The Entertainer D’ Sequel*.

Speaking during an exclusive album listening event held on a boat cruise, D’banj explained to *Saturday Beats* that the decision to revisit his earlier works was driven by the fact that many of his albums were released before the digital music era. “Most of my albums came out before the digital era; that’s why I went back and sampled some of my hits,” he said.

With the 20th anniversary of his debut approaching, D’banj felt the pressure to complete the album by December last year. However, he revealed that he ended up creating most of the tracks in January and February of this year.

One of the standout tracks on the album is “Serious,” an Afropop rendition of Busta Rhymes’ hit “Dangerous,” which D’banj noted is the oldest song on the album. The project also features collaborations with several international artists, including Awilo Logomba on “Kala,” Wyclef Jean on “I Am Legend,” Peruzzi on “Healer,” Akon on “Koko Remix,” Phyno on “Yours Truly,” and Youssou N’dour on “Worthy,” among others.

The album marks a significant milestone in D’banj’s career as he celebrates two decades in the music industry.
