Delta State Government Launches Entrepreneurship Schemes in Higher Institutions to Combat Youth Unemployment

The Delta State Government has introduced entrepreneurship schemes in higher institutions to reduce unemployment, particularly among the youth.

Dr. Onyibe Peterson, Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, announced this initiative during a courtesy visit to the management of the University of Delta, Agbor, on Tuesday.

Peterson highlighted the critical role of entrepreneurship in students’ lives, emphasizing its potential to inspire innovative solutions and drive economic growth. He noted that these initiatives, particularly the agropreneur and techpreneur programs, aim to transform students into job creators rather than job seekers.

As part of the agropreneur initiative, Peterson requested a large piece of land for the practice of hydroponic farming, which would benefit both the students and the institution. Regarding techpreneurship, he mentioned that a team of ICT experts would train students in digital marketing, cybersecurity, and other areas to enhance their skills and employability.

Prof. Stella Chiemeke, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, expressed her appreciation for Peterson’s dedication to the university. She affirmed the institution’s readiness to collaborate with the Office of Entrepreneurship, stating that the Department of Agriculture would take necessary steps to ensure the smooth implementation of the schemes.
