The Office of the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG) has raised an alarm over the activities of fraudsters impersonating the SSG and soliciting money in exchange for non-existent political appointments.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the SSG of Delta State, disclosed that a gang of criminals is using the phone number 08085129491 to send unsolicited scam messages to unsuspecting individuals. The messages urge recipients to pay a specific amount into Zenith Bank Account Number 4235384296, with one Mr. Jonah Kumor listed as the account holder, in exchange for political appointments and lucrative contracts from the state government.
Dr. Emu emphasized that these messages, sent via WhatsApp or SMS, are fraudulent and should be disregarded. The scammers reportedly use his picture on the WhatsApp display profile to deceive desperate political appointment seekers and contractors.
“All political appointments in Delta State are at the discretion of the Executive Governor and are free of charge. Contracts can only be awarded through established procedures and bids after meeting relevant requirements, not via SMS or WhatsApp messages,” the statement clarified.
The statement also highlighted the following:
– The criminals are using a fake WhatsApp account with Dr. Emu’s picture, intending to defraud the public by promising political appointments and offering non-existent contract awards.
– The SSG’s office has issued this disclaimer as a public alert, urging Deltans and Nigerians to disregard any solicitation messages or phone calls.
– Security agencies have been notified of these fraudulent activities, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
– The SSG’s office warned the fraudsters to cease their illegal activities or face the full wrath of the law.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications to the authorities.
