Delta State Governor Emphasizes Unity at Peaceful PDP Congress, Welcomes New State Executive

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has highlighted the importance of unity and collective effort for the continued growth of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the overall development of the state. Speaking to journalists during the PDP State Congress on Saturday, the governor praised the peaceful nature of the event and expressed gratitude for the unity within the party.

“I congratulate the newly elected members of the State Executive Committee of the PDP following their victories at the state congress,” Oborevwori stated, adding, “You can see that the congress is peaceful. We also thank God for the good weather today. You can see that we are united in Delta State. That’s why you see that there is no crisis.”

The governor advised the incoming PDP State Executive Committee to prioritize maintaining unity within the party and to focus on strengthening the party as it prepares for the 2027 elections. However, he urged politicians not to become preoccupied with 2027 just yet, emphasizing that the current priority should be delivering effective governance to the people of Delta State.

In a similar vein, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, encouraged the newly elected executive members to stay committed to the party’s ideals. In his congratulatory message to the new state chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, and the other executive members, Guwor lauded their dedication, hard work, and pedigree in party politics.

The congress, which was attended by 3,152 delegates, including the governor, his deputy Monday Onyeme, former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator Ned Nwoko, and Senator James Manager, was conducted under the supervision of a team of PDP officials from Abuja, led by Prof. Frank Collins Okafor. The event was also overseen by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and monitored by independent observers.

During the congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Chief Solomon Arenyeka was elected as the State Chairman, with Moses Iduh as Deputy Chairman. Other key officials elected include Daniel Ossai (Vice Chairman, Delta North Senatorial District), Anthony Akpomiemie (Vice Chairman, Delta Central Senatorial District), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Vice Chairman, Delta South Senatorial District), Chief Isaacs Itebu (Secretary), and Chief Chibuzor Uwajei (State Treasurer), among others.

In his farewell speech, outgoing state chairman, Dr. Kingsley Esiso, commended party leaders and stakeholders for their support over the years. He encouraged the new Executive Committee to base their decisions on the unity, strength, and winning spirit of the party.

Prof. Frank Collins Okafor, chairman of the election panel, praised the orderly conduct of the elections, which adhered strictly to party rules. He described the Delta PDP as a model for peaceful party congresses, recommending that the National Working Committee replicate this example across the country.
