Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has expressed his regret at never having the opportunity to play in the FIFA Club World Cup with his former club. While he missed the chance to compete for the global title, Drogba shared his joy in witnessing Chelsea lift the trophy in 2021 after they qualified by winning the UEFA Champions League under then-manager Thomas Tuchel.
“I would have loved to have played in the Club World Cup. It is life; that is how things are. It is one of my regrets, actually,” Drogba told Give Me Sports. “I was really happy to go to Abu Dhabi to watch Chelsea win it.”
Drogba, who had two spells with Chelsea from 2004 to 2012 and again from 2014 to 2015, became one of the club’s most celebrated players, scoring 164 goals and making 88 assists in 381 appearances. His career with the west London club remains legendary, despite missing out on the chance to add a Club World Cup appearance to his list of achievements.
