The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to excellence and meritocracy, emphasizing their importance in the state’s governance.
Governor Otti made this declaration on Monday, January 13, 2025, during the swearing-in of Mr. Benson Ojeikere as the new Head of Service for Abia State. Ojeikere, originally from Edo State, joined the Abia Civil Service in 1999 and has risen through the ranks to achieve this historic appointment.
In his address, Governor Otti congratulated Ojeikere and urged him to justify his appointment by working diligently to enhance the efficiency and reputation of the state’s civil service. The governor expressed his vision of making Abia’s civil service a national and international model of excellence.
During his acceptance speech, Mr. Ojeikere expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, describing his appointment as a testament to hard work and dedication. He recounted his journey from being a National Youth Service Corps member posted to Abia in 1999, where he was named the best corps member, to receiving automatic employment in the state’s civil service.
Ojeikere noted his surprise at the progression of his career, which saw him rise from Senior Director to Permanent Secretary in 2023, and now Head of Service, under Governor Otti’s leadership. He pledged to align with the governor’s vision and work tirelessly to transform the Abia State Civil Service into a benchmark for others.
The swearing-in ceremony highlighted Governor Otti’s dedication to recognizing merit and excellence in service, further solidifying his administration’s progressive approach to governance.
