Edo PDP Set to Resume Campaign as Governorship Election Nears

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to resume its governorship campaign ahead of the September 21 election. A key party member revealed that this final phase of the campaign will commence on August 29, following the return of the party’s flagbearer, Asue Ighodalo, from the United States on Wednesday.

The campaign will kick off in Edo North, move to Edo Central, and conclude in Edo South, just two days before the election. The PDP aims to re-energize its campaign efforts, with plans to visit various communities across the state to share its manifesto and rally support.

Meanwhile, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified its own campaign on Tuesday in Esan South-East Local Government Area. Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, speaking at a rally in Ewohimi, urged voters to oust the PDP, accusing the current administration of neglecting the area. He criticized the abandonment of key projects, including a hospital and a water project, initiated during his tenure.

Oshiomhole also sought to clarify previous remarks, denying that he had called the people of Ewohimi “witches and wizards,” and instead used the phrase to highlight the absence of Asue Ighodalo in the community. The APC’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and the party’s campaign director, Matthew Urhoghide, also called on voters to support the APC in the upcoming election, promising solutions to the community’s challenges.
