Edo State Government Honors Rema by Naming New Arena After Him

The Edo State government has announced that it will name the proposed Edo Arena after pop star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema. This decision was unveiled during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Edo Arena, where the ‘Calm Down’ singer was personally involved in laying the foundation stone.

The new facility will be named “Rema Dome” in honor of the singer, who has become a global sensation since his breakthrough in 2019. Rema, alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki and other government officials, participated in the event, which is part of the activities leading up to his much-anticipated homecoming concert in Benin.

Rema’s arrival in Benin on Tuesday was met with widespread celebration, reflecting his popularity and influence. His homecoming concert, scheduled for August 30 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, marks a significant milestone in his career and a moment of pride for the Edo State community.

Rema first gained widespread attention in 2018 with a viral Instagram freestyle of D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang.” He made his official music debut in 2019 with the hit single “Dumebi,” and has since become a prominent figure in the global music scene. This concert comes after a previous attempt by Governor Obaseki to host Rema in December 2023, which was postponed due to health reasons.

The naming of the Rema Dome is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to the artist’s contributions to music and his connection to Edo State.
