The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has officially launched its statewide governorship campaign, expressing confidence in its chances of success. The campaign kicked off in Ubiaja, the headquarters of Esan South East Local Government Area, with key party leaders and supporters in attendance.
The rally featured prominent figures such as former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, former Deputy Governor Mike Ogiadomhe, State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi, Senator Odion Ugbesia, and the Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, Tim Osadolor, among others.
Addressing the crowd, Blessing Agbebaku, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, praised Governor Godwin Obaseki, describing him as a visionary leader. Agbebaku emphasized that only the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, possess the capability to continue the governor’s work.
Francis Inegbeneki, another speaker at the event, dispelled rumors that he was on the run, stating that after 24 years of waiting to produce a governor from their region, they could not back the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as he lacks the necessary capacity.
Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Governor Obaseki, highlighted the PDP’s commitment to fairness, noting that the party was the first to ensure equity by selecting Ighodalo as its candidate. She criticized other parties for following suit with less competent candidates, reiterating that Edo State values fairness and equity.
In his remarks, Tom Ikimi called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure a free and fair election in the state. He urged the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide security for all participants on election day, stressing the importance of every vote counting.
