The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) is urging residents in the South-East region to upgrade their pre-paid meters by November 24 to avoid service interruptions. This call comes as part of the company’s efforts to address the upcoming Token Identifier (TID) rollover, which will impact all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) compliant prepaid meters globally.
Mr. Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, explained during a press briefing in Enugu that the upgrade is essential to ensure continued acceptance of credit tokens by the meters. He emphasized that, without the upgrade, prepaid meters will cease to accept new tokens after the deadline.
In preparation for this transition, EEDC has implemented a new vending system called “SuperEdge.” Ezeh noted that prepaid meters not upgraded will still function until the energy credits loaded onto them are depleted, but customers who have not recharged since February 2024 will need to enter Key Change Tokens (KCTs) during their first recharge post-upgrade.
Customers are required to enter three sets of 20-digit tokens into their meters to complete the upgrade process. Ezeh clarified that this upgrade is free of charge. He advised customers with unspent tokens to load them onto their meters before initiating the upgrade, as the meters will no longer accept those tokens after the upgrade and refunds will not be available for unused tokens.
For convenient recharging, customers can utilize the “EnergyPay” option by visiting the EEDC website at www.enugudisco.com and clicking the “Make Payment” button, or they can use the EEDC Connect App. For further inquiries or assistance regarding the upgrade process, customers can contact the EEDC Call Center at 0208 4700 100.
