Super Eagles interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen, has shed light on striker Victor Boniface’s current form, acknowledging the forward’s potential despite his recent struggles in front of goal for the national team. Following Nigeria’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Libya in their AFCON 2025 qualifier, Eguavoen praised Boniface’s abilities but pointed out his difficulties in converting chances during national team matches.
“Boniface is a clinical striker, but he’s struggling in national colors. Sometimes the chances don’t come,” Eguavoen remarked. He emphasized that Boniface’s decision-making at crucial moments, such as taking too long to shoot, has affected his performance. “If he decides on time, Boniface will score a lot of goals,” Eguavoen added, noting that he plans to work with the striker to improve his efficiency.
The Super Eagles secured a narrow victory in Uyo, thanks to an 86th-minute goal from substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. In the absence of Victor Osimhen, Boniface, alongside Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon, led Nigeria’s attack. Despite dominating possession, Nigeria struggled to break down Libya’s defense until the late goal that kept them top of Group D with seven points, boosting their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025.
