A Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ado Ekiti District of Ekiti State has ordered the remand of a 20-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, for allegedly inflicting a severe injury on the manhood of her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman.

Ikoja was arraigned on Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command over the incident, which occurred on April 12 at about 8 p.m. in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, told the court that the defendant unlawfully tore her boyfriend’s scrotal sac during the altercation and also acted in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravenes sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Laws of 2021 and urged the court not to grant bail, citing the risk of the defendant jumping bail.

However, defence counsel, David Ogbede, pleaded for bail, arguing that the accused was presumed innocent under the law and would not abscond.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned to April 22 for hearing.
