The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Femi Akinwumi, has restated the state government’s dedication to achieving a zero out-of-school children status.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of new local government branch chairmen of the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) in Ekiti State, Akinwumi emphasized that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is focused on making free and compulsory education a reality for every child. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure development projects and support for teachers as part of this mission.
Akinwumi called for continued cooperation from head teachers to ensure all children are enrolled in school, warning against the imposition of illegal fees on pupils, with violators facing strict sanctions.
“The Oyebanji administration is committed to ensuring that no child is left out of school. Our policies and programs are designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of reducing the number of out-of-school children to zero,” Akinwumi said.
He listed key achievements of the current administration in the basic education sector, including the improvement of school infrastructure, provision of instructional materials, regular payment of salaries, and ongoing teacher training. He also mentioned incentives such as car and housing loans for teachers and the extension of primary school teachers’ career progression to grade level 16 for university graduates.
AOPSHON state Chairman, Olusola Ajiborode, commended the government’s efforts to prioritize teacher welfare, acknowledging the positive impact on the education system.
