Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on the people of Anambra to embody the qualities exemplified by Pope John Paul II, celebrated for his dedication to unity and interfaith outreach.
Governor Soludo made the remarks during the first feast and thanksgiving celebration in honor of Pope John Paul II at the Pope John Paul II Major Seminary in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
The Governor described Pope John Paul II as a bridge-builder among diverse faiths, noting that his own administration’s policies mirror these principles, particularly in efforts to uplift education, healthcare, and infrastructure. These initiatives, Soludo stated, are directed towards supporting marginalized communities and transforming Anambra into a destination of progress.
Reflecting on the role of faith, Soludo urged people to trust in God’s timing, which he described as perfect for all endeavors.
In a preceding homily, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. P.E Akpunonu praised Pope John Paul II’s intellectual rigor, noting his fluency in ten languages and ability to connect with people across cultures. He encouraged seminarians to follow the Pope’s example by cultivating diligence and openness.
Fr. Akpunonu also commended the Governor for the recent dualization of the Unizik Temporary Site junction to Isu Road, an improvement that has greatly eased access for seminary residents.
Governor Soludo was joined at the event by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; Member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, Dr. Paschal Agbodike; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu; Chief of Staff Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; and Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, among others.
