The Enugwu-Ukwu Agricultural Commission has held its 2025 Agricultural Exhibition as part of activities marking the community’s annual Olili Onwa Asato festival. The event, staged at the Obu Umunri Complex in Njikoka Local Government Area, featured livestock and diverse farm produce cultivated by local farmers.
Njikoka Local Government Mayor, Barrister Chinedu Ononiba, commended the initiative, describing it as unprecedented and aligned with the Anambra State Government’s agricultural development goals. He called for its continuation to encourage wider participation in farming.
Exhibitors included former Nigerian Ambassador to Burundi, Chief Elijah Onyeagba, and Mr. Nkemdilim Ofoedu, known for rearing a native cow species called “Efi Igbo.” Both praised the exhibition as a valuable contribution to food security and the fight against hunger.
At his palace, the Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Sir Ralph Ekpe, expressed gratitude for the year’s harvest and urged more support for farmers. Chief Dr. Uche Nworah, former MD of ABS and member of the royal cabinet, highlighted the cultural significance of Olili Onwa Asato, also known as the new yam festival, as a time for unity and celebration.
The exhibition attracted dignitaries including the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi, and a representative of the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor.
