The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr Felix Odimegwu and other staff of the Ministry have visited an excavation site at Ichi community, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
According to the Commissioner, the inspection was for technical evaluation of the activities of excavators in the area where in he frowned at the situation of the environment and pointed out that further activities would lead to more disaster if not urgently checked.
During the inspection, the Commissioner directed Mr Maduka to stop the excavation immediately and find a way to stabilise the land by building embankments and planting trees.
He promised to monitor him and ensure he works according to the ministry’s directives.
Speaking Mr Ezekiel Nwosu from Enugu aja village said he wished the site owner stabilise their land he encroached upon and pay them for cutting down some of their palm trees.
For Mrs Nwosu Ukamaka and Mr Uche, they complained of noise pollution and release of other chemicals in the environment that were affecting their lungs due to the environmental pollution and other issues associated with the excavation activities.
