Nigeria’s Falconets head coach, Chris Danjuma, has expressed his admiration for his players following their impressive 1-0 victory over Korea Republic in their opening match of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The Falconets secured the win with a late goal from Flourish Sabastine, who found the back of the net just four minutes before the final whistle. The victory puts Nigeria in a strong position as they begin their quest for World Cup glory.
“It was a tough match, being the first match. The victory is sweet because it puts your foot in the group,” Danjuma said in a post-match interview with FIFA.com. He praised his team’s performance, while also noting that there is room for improvement. “My team performed well, but I know we’re going to perform much, much, much better than this,” he added.
The Falconets are now preparing for their next challenge, a crucial group stage encounter against Germany, set to take place in Bogota on Wednesday. The match is expected to be a stern test for the Nigerian side as they aim to build on their strong start and secure a spot in the knockout stages.
