FCCPC Seals Chinese Supermarket in Abuja Over Discriminatory Policy

FCCPC

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) took decisive action on Monday by sealing a Chinese supermarket located at the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja, following reports of discriminatory practices.

FCCPC officials visited the supermarket and promptly shut it down after conducting an investigation and questioning Nigerian employees at the premises.

Concerns had been raised on social media regarding the implementation of a discriminatory policy at the Chinese supermarket, which reportedly restricted entry exclusively to Chinese citizens while barring Nigerians from accessing the premises.

Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager of the complex, confirmed the allegations, stating that only Nigerian employees were permitted to access the supermarket.

The swift intervention by the FCCPC underscores the government’s commitment to upholding consumer rights and combating discriminatory practices in commercial establishments.
