Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has accused his estranged political ally and Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, of being the key figure behind the recent political turmoil and violence in the state. Wike made the accusation during an appearance on *Channels Television’s* *Politics Today*, monitored from Abuja on Tuesday night.
Wike emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law, stating, “Obeying the rule of law and not the rule of power is the only thing that can bring peace. There is peace when you obey court judgments when you allow the rule of law to prevail.”
The minister alleged that the crisis began when Governor Fubara attempted a political “coup” to remove the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a move Wike said backfired.
Wike also revealed that his legal team has been instructed to challenge the judicial panel of inquiry that Governor Fubara proposed in response to the post-election violence in the state. According to Wike, the governor should focus on using security agencies to arrest those responsible for the violence instead of wasting public funds on a panel.
The ongoing rift between the two political figures has further intensified the political tension in Rivers State.
