Federal Government Introduces 64 Compressed Natural Gas Buses to Alleviate Transportation Costs

The Federal Government has procured and handed over 64 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, each with a seating capacity of 100, to organized labor and student union leadership in Abuja. The ceremony took place on Sunday at the State House Conference Centre.

In addition to the buses, the government provided over 400 CNG conversion kits to private sector transporters in four states. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to reduce fuel costs for public transportation amid rising transportation expenses following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

In response to widespread public concern over increased transportation costs, the presidency has actively encouraged motorists to transition to CNG as a means of lowering their fuel expenses. Organized labor has repeatedly emphasized the importance of implementing palliative measures, including a significant number of CNG vehicles, in light of the economic challenges faced by Nigerians since the subsidy removal.
