The Federal University of Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara State has discredited the professorship claim of Dr. Bernard Odoh, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, calling it a product of fraud.
In a statement issued late last night, the university refuted reports that Odoh obtained his professorship through its institution. FUG alleged that documents being paraded by Odoh, including letters of tenure and promotion to professor dated April 30, 2015, and November 12, 2015, are fraudulent.
The statement claimed the documents were endorsed on November 8, 2024, by the university’s former Registrar, Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, who left the institution in 2018. It alleged that Kaura used a fake stamp and impersonated the current Registrar to certify the documents.
“The fraud was orchestrated by Dr. Odoh in collusion with the former Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university. There is no official record of Dr. Odoh’s employment in the university’s custody,” the statement read.
The university cited Section 104 of the Evidence Act, 2011, which outlines requirements for certifying public documents. It stated that Odoh’s documents failed to meet these criteria, rendering them legally invalid.
FUG emphasized that Kaura, having left the university’s services in 2018, lacks the authority to certify documents on its behalf.
