The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In his message to Nigerians, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings and urged citizens to embrace the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season represents. He encouraged Nigerians to reflect on these core principles and demonstrate kindness toward one another, regardless of their differences.
*“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another,”* he said.
The Minister emphasized the importance of the season as a time to strengthen family and community ties. He noted that fostering harmony within communities can significantly contribute to national development.
*“Building connections at the familial and community levels plays a vital role in uniting the nation and advancing its progress,”* he added.
Reassuring the public, Tunji-Ojo affirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country.
Nigerians are encouraged to use the festive period to reflect on ways to contribute to the nation’s progress and maintain the spirit of goodwill throughout the celebrations.
