A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Environment has visited the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr Felix Thursday in his office at Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka.
The three-member delegation comprising Mr Chukwumerije Aja, Mr Nwobodo Basil and Mrs Anaebue Violet informed the Commissioner of FG’s readiness to implement THE PBAT GREEN HEROES PROGRAMME an initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. ” The programme improves the mitigation and adaptation efforts of state government towards addressing the effects of climate change on the people.”
According to them, the aim of the programme was to help increase the nation’s forest cover, by massive tree planting and enhance sustainable forest management.
Responding, the Commissioner thanked the delegation and assured them that the project will be executed successfully because of the interest of the Anambra state Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo on the issue that concerns the environment, reason why he made the Environment one of his major pillars in his five points agenda.
Dr Odimegwu acknowledged the kind gesture of the federal government and the federal ministry of environment while stressing that Anambra state is the erosion capital of West Africa and needes all attention it’s getting.
Mr Tochukwu Obodogha, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Awka, Mrs Ijeoma Onyekwelu, HOD Ecology Department among others attended the meeting.
