Finidi George Resigns as Super Eagles Head Coach Amid NFF Plans for Foreign Adviser

Finidi George has resigned from his position as head coach of the Super Eagles, just days after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced intentions to appoint a foreign technical adviser.

The news of his resignation was confirmed on Saturday by former Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, who posted on his X account, “News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”

Finidi’s tenure as head coach was short-lived, having been appointed on April 29, 2024, to replace Jose Peseiro, whose contract expired in February. During his brief stint, Finidi managed a 1-1 draw against South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

Ibitoye’s announcement included a tweet with the message, “Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position,” further confirming the development.

The decision by the NFF to seek a foreign technical adviser appears to have prompted Finidi’s resignation, ending his brief period in charge of the national team.
