In a significant development for education in Ihite, Orumba South Local Government Area, First Bank of Nigeria Limited has commissioned a newly renovated six-classroom block at Community Secondary School, Ihite.
During the commissioning event, the Ihite Development Union also donated a new generator to the school to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, facilitating a seamless learning process even during power outages.
Mr. Francis Amuta, Group Head, Commercial Banking, South East 2, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, represented the Group Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria Holding PLC and a prominent son of the Ihite community, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo. In his speech, Mr. Amuta emphasized the bank’s commitment to giving back to society by supporting quality education. He noted that a motivated teaching staff and a conducive learning environment are key to delivering excellent education.
Chief Timothy Ifurunwa, the Traditional Ruler-elect of Ihite community, expressed gratitude to the benefactors for their contributions to the community. He reminisced about the school’s past reputation as one of the best in the state and appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s support for educational development and community partnerships. Chief Ifurunwa also thanked the Commissioner of Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, for addressing the school’s urgent needs.
Surveyor George Madu, President General of Ihite Development Union, hailed the event as a testament to the community’s commitment to excellence in education. He highlighted the importance of a conducive learning environment and called on the state government to assist in restoring the school’s former status as a boarding institution by constructing a perimeter fence.
Princess Anulika Abazu, Principal of Community Secondary School Ihite, represented by Vice Principal Mrs. Onyinye Oraba, expressed the teachers’ renewed motivation to excel in their duties. Students, represented by Senior Prefect Wisdom Eze and Deputy Senior Prefect Promise Igwe, pledged to make the most of the improved facilities for their personal development and to honor their community and benefactors.
The event also saw the presence of Dr. Peter Okoli, Chairman of the Education Committee of Ihite Development Union, represented by Engr Anayo Anumudu, Secretary of the committee.
