Anambra State Government Flood Management Team led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim accompanied by the Commissioner for trade and commerce, Hon. Christian Udechukwu, Commissioner for Environment Dr Felix Odimegwu and Chairman of Anambra East LGA, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze have taken delivery of food items donated by the Bank of Industry for flood displaced persons in the state.
According to the Deputy Governor, the received items will be distributed to various local government councils and their affected communities. ” The team will also ensure that the flood victims access them immediately. This food combo carton which contains vegetable oil, semovita, noodles, salt, flour and sugar will give them relief for the mean time”.
On his part, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr Felix Odimegwu called on Anambra philanthropists, companies, religious organisations and NGO’s to come to the aid of affected persons by donating relief items to them.
Dr Odimegwu stated that the Environment Ministry had made great effort in the dissemination of early warning signs and weekly flood predictions chart for the past three months through various news channels which have helped reduce panic, created awareness needs and prompted victims to move up quickly to uplands before the flood peaks. He also urged more people to seek shelter at higher grounds
