Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist Fola David has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest drawing by an individual. Based in Lagos, David aimed to create 1000 square meters of art showcasing Nigeria’s diverse cultures. His six-day attempt began on July 16 at Onikan Stadium.
By Friday night, David announced on social media that he had surpassed the previous record of 629.98 square meters. “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1000 square meters of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square meters. Let’s Go!” he wrote.
Among the notable Nigerians who visited David during his attempt were Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party; former GWR holder Hilda Baci; and businessman Farooq Oreagba, who garnered attention at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival. Additionally, the management of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), where David is an alumnus, visited to show their support.
