Ewaoche Benjamin Obe, the former governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Benue State, has been evicted from his Abuja home after his wife, Christiana Obe, allegedly used the property as collateral for a loan. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at his house in Sagwari Layout, Dutse, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
DAILY POST reports that the house was built by Obe, but his wife, whom he has been married to since 2006, used it as security for a loan without his knowledge. Christiana, an officer in the Nigerian Air Force, reportedly moved some of her belongings out of the house, including air conditioners, before the eviction.
Obe, who was traveling to Benue State at the time, received a call informing him that security operatives had invaded his home and started evicting him. Shocked by the news, he returned to Abuja and was handed a court document stating the property had been confiscated over the loan. Obe claims he was never informed about the loan or served any court notice prior to the eviction.
During a Facebook live broadcast, Obe expressed his frustration, accusing his wife of orchestrating the eviction in collaboration with the officers involved. He stated that their marriage had been troubled, and this act was her way of retaliating against him. Obe also disclosed that his wife had taken their son to an undisclosed location before the incident.
A family member, speaking anonymously, criticized the situation, saying Obe had invested heavily in his wife’s education and career, only to be betrayed. They questioned the legitimacy of the court papers and called for an investigation into the officers involved in the eviction.
When contacted by DAILY POST, Christiana declined to comment, stating, “I am not under any obligation to speak to anyone.”
