Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has called for increased investment in digital infrastructure and innovative teaching technologies to enhance education in today’s technology-driven world. Speaking at the 13th graduation ceremony of Cavendish University Uganda in Kampala on Thursday, Dr. Jonathan emphasized the need for a forward-thinking approach to equip graduates to navigate the opportunities and challenges posed by rapid technological advancement.
As Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda, Dr. Jonathan praised the institution for its commitment to integrating technology into education, noting that its forward-thinking approach has established it as a leader in technology-enabled learning. He acknowledged the university’s efforts to harness technology to provide students with an unparalleled learning experience.
In his address, Dr. Jonathan extolled the graduates for their dedication and perseverance. He urged them to embrace lifelong learning, cultivate an innovative mindset, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. He also emphasized the importance of building strong networks and committing to ethical and responsible leadership.
“The world is evolving at an unprecedented rate,” Dr. Jonathan said. “To remain relevant and competitive, you must commit to continuous learning. Lifelong learning is not just a necessity but a mindset that will keep you adaptable and innovative.”
He advised the graduates to cultivate resilience to overcome setbacks and adaptability to thrive in changing environments. “Your resilience will enable you to bounce back from failures and emerge stronger,” he added.
Dr. Jonathan also encouraged the graduates to take risks, explore new ideas, and use their skills and influence to contribute positively to society. He highlighted the importance of ethical leadership in building a sustainable and just world.
