Former President Obasanjo Meets First Lady Oluremi Tinubu

On Monday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo met with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. The meeting was publicized by the First Lady’s media aide, Busola Kukoyi, on social media platform X. Kukoyi shared photos of the encounter and stated, “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June.”

This meeting occurred just 48 hours after Obasanjo was seen wearing a cap bearing President Bola Tinubu’s insignia. A video reported by DAILY POST showed Obasanjo donning the cap at an event attended by several African dignitaries.

Despite their shared Southwest geopolitical zone, Obasanjo and Tinubu belong to different political affiliations. During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, even though Tinubu had previously visited Obasanjo seeking endorsement. Obasanjo ultimately endorsed Obi and has since been critical of the Tinubu administration’s handling of ongoing reforms and the coup d’état in Niger Republic.
