The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Football Team emerged as the champions of the 3-day Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Correspondents Chapel Football for Friendship Tournament, after defeating the Federal High Court team with a single goal in a thrilling final match.
The tournament, which began on July 11, 2024, saw participation from 12 teams representing various government agencies and professional bodies, including the Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Bar Association, and Nigeria Sports Writers Association.
Held at the Old Parade Ground, Area 11 Football Field in Abuja, the final match attracted a large audience, including dignitaries and journalists. Additionally, the NAWOJ FCT football team triumphed over NUJ veterans in a novelty match.
NUJ National President Chris Isiguzo highlighted the tournament’s role in fostering positive relationships among professional bodies and government agencies. He praised the FCT Correspondents Chapel for promoting camaraderie between journalists and the entities they work with.
Jide Oyekunle, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents Chapel, congratulated the FRSC team and acknowledged the sportsmanship and dedication of all participating teams.
As the event concluded, both participants and organizers expressed their appreciation for the chance to engage in friendly competition and build lasting connections.
The FRSC team was awarded a trophy and cash prize, while the Federal High Court team and other participants received medals and certificates of participation.
