FRSC Urges Caution on World Road Safety Day; Overloading and Speeding Condemned

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, has issued a stern warning to motorists regarding the dangers of overloading and overspeeding on the roads.

During a public enlightenment program in Amawbia to mark this year’s World Road Safety Day, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commandant of the FRSC, reiterated the importance of responsible driving habits.

Mr. Irelewuyi, delivering a message on behalf of Ousmane Maiga, President of the West Africa Road Safety Organization (WARSO), highlighted the organization’s efforts in promoting road safety awareness and knowledge exchange among member states over the past sixteen years.

Emphasizing the day’s theme, “Safe and Sustainable Transportation in West Africa: Lessons for Road Safety Agencies,” Mr. Irelewuyi called upon all stakeholders to extend road safety initiatives to every corner of the region.

He expressed concern over the prevalence of overspeeding and overloading among motorists, stressing the need for a collective effort to curb such risky behaviors.

Addressing students and personnel during the public enlightenment session, Mrs. Okora Awassam, Deputy Corps Commander and Head of Operations, urged FRSC operatives to execute their duties diligently while adhering to best practices.

Mrs. Awassam also cautioned against dangerous practices such as trucks carrying both cattle and humans simultaneously or vehicles transporting petrol due to scarcity, warning of decisive actions against violators of traffic laws.

Mrs. Nkorika Okafor, a representative from St. John Of God Secondary School, commended the FRSC for organizing the impactful and educational program. She pledged to disseminate the knowledge gained to fellow students and parents, emphasizing the importance of road safety awareness.

The event concluded with an interactive session where students posed questions, highlighting the significance of engaging the younger generation in road safety discussions.
