Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has credited Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini for Ademola Lookman’s outstanding progress both at the club and international levels.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in 2022, has delivered exceptional performances this year. The 27-year-old forward was instrumental in Nigeria’s second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and has continued to shine in Serie A.
Speaking to *Sportitalia*, Peseiro highlighted the impact of Gasperini’s management on Lookman’s development. “Giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to showcase his quality, both in decision-making and execution,” Peseiro said. “The club and Gasperini have created an environment that has helped Lookman grow as a player in every aspect.”
This week, Lookman was named African Footballer of the Year, a recognition Peseiro believes is well-deserved. “His victory is justified given his performances for Atalanta and Nigeria,” the Portuguese tactician added.
Lookman’s rise underscores the synergy between his talent, Gasperini’s tactical approach, and the supportive environment at Atalanta, making him a standout figure in African and global football.
