Germany triumphed over Scotland with a commanding 5-1 victory in the opening match of the 2024 European Championship.
The hosts asserted their dominance early on, racing to a 3-0 lead by halftime. Florian Wirtz opened the scoring, followed by Jamal Musiala, and a penalty from Kai Havertz.
Scotland’s hopes were further dashed when Ryan Porteous was sent off just before the break for a dangerous tackle on Ilkay Gundogan inside the penalty area.
In the second half, substitute Niclas Fullkrug added another goal for Germany. Although Antonio Rudiger scored an own goal, Emre Can capped off the performance by curling a shot into the bottom corner.
Germany’s impressive start sets a high bar for their Euro 2024 campaign, while Scotland faces an uphill battle after a tough opening match.
