Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has sworn in 21 newly elected local government Mayors and their Deputies at a ceremony held in the Executive Chambers of the Government House, Awka. The swearing-in marked a significant moment in grassroots governance across the state, with the Governor urging the new officials to prioritize local development and community welfare.
Among those sworn in were Chibueze Ofobuike (Aguata), Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West), Romanus Ibekwe (Anaocha), and ThankGod Anago (Awka North). Other new Mayors include Chinedu Okafor (Awka South), Alphonsus Ofumelu (Ayamelum), Chijioke Ozumba (Dunukofia), Chimezie Obi (Ekwusigo), and Stanley Nkwoka (Idemili North), among others.
In his address, Governor Soludo, known for his development-focused agenda, congratulated the Mayors on their electoral victories and emphasized the importance of grassroots governance in driving progress across the state. He urged the newly elected officials to work closely with the state government to implement impactful development projects that benefit the people of Anambra.
“Congratulations on your victory at the polls. Anambra people have spoken, and their confidence in you is evident. You are now transitioning from politics to governance,” the Governor stated. “You are part of project Anambra. Work collaboratively to advance the common good of the people, with the ultimate goal being the security and welfare of ndị Anambra.”
Governor Soludo also highlighted the need for the Mayors to focus on youth empowerment, considering the high unemployment rates in the state. He stressed that youth development is a key mechanism for reducing poverty and driving sustainable growth at the local level.
“Recall your oaths of allegiance and office daily, and serve the people selflessly. Duty calls, and you have answered. Now, get to your local governments and play your part,” Soludo urged.
He assured the newly sworn-in officials of ongoing support from his administration to ensure the swift execution of development initiatives across the state. Dr. Chibuike Ofobuike, the Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his leadership and reaffirmed the commitment of the Mayors to work in unity with the state government.
The event was attended by top state officials, including Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Head of Service Barr. Theodora Igwegbe, and other key members of the state’s executive council.
