Governor Adeleke Threatens N5bn Defamation Lawsuit Against Osun APC Over Allegations of Election Violence

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has threatened to file a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations that a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was planning a violent attack ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

The APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, raised concerns in a statement, citing a viral video where an unnamed PDP chieftain allegedly discussed bombing the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent the collation of election results. The APC called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter, criticizing Governor Adeleke and the PDP for not condemning the video.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the claims as baseless and defamatory. He announced that the governor would direct his legal team to demand a retraction or pursue legal action against Olabisi, seeking N5 billion in damages if the allegations were not withdrawn.

Rasheed also accused the APC of planning to rig the 2026 election but reassured the public that Governor Adeleke remained focused on his leadership and had the support of the people of Osun State.
