Governor Alex Otti Approves White Paper Report and New Leadership for Abia State University

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced the release and publication of the White Paper report from the full visitation panel of Abia State University, Uturu. Alongside this development, the governor has appointed Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as the new Vice Chancellor, along with a new management team and governing council for the institution.

The announcement was made by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at the government house in Umuahia on Monday. This update follows the executive council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.

As part of the new appointments, Agwu U. Agwu has been designated as the Pro-Chancellor, with Mrs. Cathrine Uju Ifejika serving as Chancellor. Dr. Onwubiko Dike has also been appointed to the governing council. Additional appointments include two Deputy Vice Chancellors, four members of the Senate, two members of the congregation, one member of convocation, and a representative from the state’s Ministry of Tertiary Education, as well as a new bursar.

Commissioner Kanu stated that these appointments will take effect from November 1, 2024. He emphasized that the visitation panel was established to identify challenges facing the university and propose solutions, marking the beginning of a series of reforms aimed at improving the institution.
