Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dispelled recent rumors of internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that there are no factions within the party. Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, made this declaration following a meeting with PDP chairmen from the North East at the Government House in Bauchi on Friday.
The meeting took place amid reports surrounding the purported suspension of the party’s national chairman, Umar Damagum, by a faction of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), which also implicated National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu due to allegations of disloyalty. However, a Federal High Court in Abuja has since restrained the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum as the acting national chairman until the party’s national convention scheduled for December 2025.
Speaking after the closed-door meeting with PDP stakeholders, Governor Mohammed emphasized the party’s unity and commitment to resolving internal issues amicably. He stated, “I would say that we have met and discussed these situations extensively with the acting National Chairman, and we have agreed to work together along with other party organs—the BOT, members of the Governors’ Forum, and caucuses of the Senate and the House—to resolve all these issues.”
He assured party members that the PDP remains intact and will take steps to eliminate any disparaging issues. “We will deepen stakeholding and collaboration so that all these issues that are disparaging the members of the party will be resolved and nipped in the bud,” he added.
Governor Mohammed noted that the resolution of internal matters is a collective effort, involving consultations with other key PDP stakeholders. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to come together and restore its glory in preparation for the 2027 elections, declaring, “This has been a productive outing, and I am assured that the party will come together to resolve all contending issues.”
