Governor Fubara Vows to Resist Blackmail, Focus on Development in Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people and delivering infrastructural development, declaring that his administration will not succumb to blackmail from any individual or group, no matter how influential.

Speaking during the 64th Nigerian Independence Day celebration at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized his dedication to the state’s progress, amidst a political standoff with his predecessor and estranged political mentor, Nyesom Wike.

“I assure you that we will never surrender to barefaced lies and blackmail from anyone, no matter how powerful they may be,” Fubara stated. “We will remain focused and rededicated to the interest of the nation, our dear Rivers State, and the cause of our people.”

Expressing his appreciation to the people of Rivers State and supporters across the country, the governor thanked them for their unwavering support “on the side of courage, truth, and justice” since the inception of his administration.

Addressing the economic challenges facing the country, Fubara urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to revitalize the nation, calling for collective action to confront issues like corruption, abuse of power, and nepotism. He also expressed willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends.

“Let us work hand in hand with the Federal Government to tackle the economic, social, and political challenges that have diminished our democracy and stifled our economic growth,” he said.

Fubara outlined his administration’s commitment to completing major infrastructure projects, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road and the N225 billion Trans-Kalabari Road, by the end of his first term. He also highlighted efforts to improve education, including the rehabilitation of schools and recruitment of more teachers.

“We will never compromise on our commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and good governance to the citizens of Rivers State,” he assured.
