Governor Alex Otti has expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for approving the establishment of an Air Force base in Abia State.
During an official visit from the Chief of Air Staff and his delegation, Governor Otti promised that the state government would provide land for the base. He announced that, in the interim, a temporary site in Umuahia would be provided, along with operational vehicles, official residences, and other necessary logistics.
Governor Otti expressed optimism about the establishment of the Air Force base, highlighting its potential to enhance the security of lives and property in the state.
“We will give you a temporary site in Umuahia and provide residences for your men, vehicles for their mobility, and any other requirements. I believe we can achieve this within the next one to two months,” Otti assured.
He noted that the federal government has already approved an airstrip in Abia and attributed the relative peace in the state to the efforts of security agencies. Otti further assured that his administration would apprehend the killers of Nigerian soldiers.
Earlier, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar explained that his visit was to discuss potential collaborations between the Nigerian Air Force and Abia State. He requested a parcel of land for the Air Force base to enhance security in Abia and the entire South East Zone, while also thanking the governor for his dedication to service.
